Riding and writing a Roaming Everest challenge for Cyclist magazine

Writer's picture: JamieJamie

This feature appeared in issue #158 of Cyclist magazine in the UK. It was an idea I suggested to them because I wanted to do it and I knew what a beautiful feature it would be, with staggering scenery from start to finish and a massive challenge.

The ride was a love letter to our region, the High Pyrenees, and the route reads like a Greatest Hits of the area: Luz Ardiden, Col du Tourmalet, Hourquette d'Ancizan, Col d'Aspin, Tourmalet again from the other side, Col de Spandelles, Col du Soulor from the north, across to the Col d'Aubsique, down the far side and back up to surpass the 8,848m of an Everest Challenge.

The ride started and finished at Escape to the Pyrenees because all these climbs – and more! – are within easy reach of the house. It might look a bit much for just one day, but if you were to spread it out over three to six days it would be an epic cycling holiday. Get in touch with us to plan yours.

Click on each image to open them full-screen and read the feature. I hope you enjoy it.
