PLACES TO VISIT ON A REST DAY

• The Catholic pilgrimage city of Lourdes, its cathedral and grottos
Pic du Midi de Bigorre, one of the highest peaks up above the Col du Tourmalet, with
an observatory at the top and access by cable car
• The famous animal park that everyone raves about, which includes wolves and bears
• Pic du Jer, above Lourdes, with a famous funicular railway to the peak
• Natural thermal baths in several towns, known for their healing powers
• Near endless hiking and climbing with well signed routes, starting right from our house
• Go white water rafting, kayaking, zip-lining, rock climbing or bungee jumping
• Several very impressive castles, forts and chateaux
• Lots of wineries just outside the mountains, about 1hr away
• The remarkable Cirque de Gavarnie, a vast mountain amphitheatre, also known as 'The Lost Mountain' because it looks as if an entire mountain was removed. It's an easy 2hr hike total
